Jiyoon Lee, First Concertmaster of the Staatskapelle Berlin, is regarded as one of the most versatile artists of her generation. She performs internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and musical director, collaborating with orchestras such as the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Belgique, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Seoul Philharmonic, and the KBS Symphony Orchestra.
Her debut recording of the violin concertos by Korngold and Nielsen received five-star reviews and was named an “Editor’s Choice” by both BBC Music Magazine and Gramophone Magazine. Her album Mythes, featuring works by Szymanowski, Bartók, Stravinsky, and Ravel, further cemented her international reputation.
As a chamber musician, she has made her debuts at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin and Wigmore Hall in London, and has appeared at major festivals including Verbier, Kronberg, Tanglewood, and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg. She is also in high demand as a guest concertmaster with leading orchestras, among them the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestre de Paris, the Saxon State Orchestra Dresden, the Bamberg Symphony, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
Born in Seoul, Jiyoon Lee studied at the Korean National University of Arts and the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, where she now teaches. She is a prizewinner of the 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition and a First Prize winner of both the Carl Nielsen and David Oistrakh Competitions.
