Conductor and violin: Gustav Frielinghaus
Gustav Frielinghaus studied Violin in Hamburg, Bern, and Lubeck and Chamber Music in Basel and Cologne/Madrid. He is first violinist with the Amaryllis Quartet, with whom he has won many prizes. The string quartet has played all over the world at festivals and in renowned concert halls. With the motto amaryllis 3×3, the quartet composed its own cycle with concerts in Hamburg, Lubeck, and Bremen. The CD White, with string quartets by Haydn and Webern, released in Genuin Classics’ “Farbenreihe” (color series), was honored as the “chamber music recording of the year” in the ECHO Klassik 2012 awards. Since the 2009/10 season, Gustav Frielinghaus has been concertmaster of Hamburg’s Camerata, but he has also performed as a soloist. Frielinghaus gives master courses, directs student concerts, and serves on juries. At the IMF, he heads the Mendelssohn Festival Strings ensemble and will give the concert on September 15.
