Cyprien Katsaris

The French-Cypriot pianist and composer Cyprien Katsaris was born in Marseille in 1951 and grew up in Cameroon. He completed studies in Piano and Chamber Music at the Paris Conservatory. Along with many other prizes, in 1972 he won the Concours Reine Elisabeth, in 1974 the Cziffra Competition, and in 1977 the Tribune international des jeunes interprètes. Since then he has performed with the world’s most famous orchestras and conductors and founded the Katsaris Piano Quintet. His extensive discography with works from Bach to Boulez was awarded three Grand Prix du Disque, among other prizes. He is also devoted to rediscovering forgotten compositions. He gives master courses, has been a juror in worldwide competitions, and from 1977 to 2007 was Artistic Director of the Echternach International Music Festival. He has been honored with the highest international awards, including in France by being named a Chevalier of the Order of Art and Literature and in Cyprus with the Nemitsas Prize. He is a member of ADAP and an Honorary Member of Lisztomanias International.
