The Bernstein Trio was founded in 2022 and consists of Roman Tulchynsky (violin), Marei Schibilsky (cello), and Julia Stephan (piano). The musicians met at the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Music High School in Berlin and are now studying at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. As an ensemble, they receive coaching from Jonathan Aner.
The Bernstein Trio has participated in various masterclasses in Germany, France, and Switzerland and has worked with renowned artists such as Antoine Tamestit, Valentin Erben, Dirk Mommertz, Nicolas Altstaedt, Isang Enders, the Artemis Quartet, the Vogler Quartet, the Ariel Quartet, and the Boulanger Trio, among others. In summer 2023, the trio made its debut at the Rheingau Music Festival, where it was awarded
the HA Hessen Agentur GmbH sponsorship prize.
At the 2024 German Music Competition, the ensemble was awarded a scholarship and included in the Concert Promotion Program of the German Music Competition. They also received a special prize from the Freunde junger Musiker Meerbusch Düsseldorf e.V. In 2025, the Bernstein Trio won 1st prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition, along with the commissioned composition special prize and the special prize from the Freunde junger Musiker. Additionally, at the 2025 international chamber music competition “Schubert and Modern Music,” the trio secured 3rd prize. In the same month, the ensemble won 1st place and the special prize from the Robert Schumann Society at the International Schumann Chamber Music Prize in Frankfurt.
Since 2022, the Bernstein Trio has been supported by the organization “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin.” All members of the ensemble are scholarship holders of the German National Academic Foundation.
