Jens Bomhardt

Contrabass

Jens Bomhardt has been the Assistant Principal Double Bassist of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra since 2002 and Professor for Double Bass at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg since the winter semester of 2014/15.

In 1986, he won the national “Jugend musiziert” competition, and in 1996, he won the “International Competition for Orchestra Musicians” in Baden-Württemberg. Jens Bomhardt completed his double bass studies at the Frankfurt University of Music with Prof. Günter Klaus and at the Mannheim University of Music with Prof. Christoph Schmidt. He then completed his Konzertexamen with Prof. Gerhard Dzwiza in Hamburg.

During his studies, Jens Bomhardt became a member of the Saarbrücken Radio Symphony Orchestra and Principal Double Bassist of the National Theater Orchestra Mannheim. A CD released by the Ambitus label received high praise from critics of leading specialist journals. Jens Bomhardt plays a solo double bass built by Gaetano Rossi in Milan in 1860 and a chamber music double bass built by Xavier Jacquet in Mirecourt in 1875.
