Viola

Razvan Popovici is the initiator and artistic director of the SoNoRo Festival in Bucharest and the Chiemgauer Musikfrühling in Germany. In 2019, he was appointed as one of the directors of the Europalia Festival in Brussels.

As a soloist, Razvan has performed in several European countries, appearing in prestigious venues such as the Kölner Philharmonie, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Prinzregententheater and Gasteig Munich, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Paris, Southbank Centre London, and the Atheneum Bucharest, where he played with the George Enescu Philharmonic, the Transylvania Symphony Orchestra Cluj, the Orchestra del Teatro Comunale di Bologna, the Bucharest Radio Orchestra, the Chaarts Chamber Artists, and the Kobe Chamber Orchestra under the baton of conductors such as Roberto Abbado, Christian Badea, Shlomo Mintz, and John Axelrod.

He is a regular guest at major European festivals, including the Lucerne Festival, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Wiener Festwochen, Enescu Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, Spoleto Festival, Festival Academy Budapest, as well as festivals in Delft, Jerusalem, Stavanger, Málaga, and Rolandseck. His chamber music partners have included Nobuko Imai, Natalia Gutman, Radovan Vlatković, Daishin Kashimoto, Vladimir Mendelssohn, Benjamin Schmid, Christoph Prégardien, Mihaela Martin, Frans Helmerson, Enrico Pace, Gilles Apap, Elena Bashkirova, Juliane Banse, and Giovanni Sollima.

Razvan is a co-founder and member of Ensemble Raro, with which he has performed across Europe, Japan, and North America in prestigious halls such as the Konzerthaus and Musikverein Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, Suntory Hall and Musashino Hall Tokyo, Carnegie Hall New York, Kennedy Center Washington, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Philharmonie de Paris, and Bozar Brussels.

Razvan gives masterclasses in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Romania, Italy, and Japan and regularly teaches at projects organized by the Villa Musica Foundation. Since 2023, he has been a Professor of Viola at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, Belgium.
