Carlo Colombo

Bassoon

Carlo Colombo was born in Padua and studied with E. Dall’Oca in Milan, with R. Birnstingl in Geneva, and with B. Pollard in Amsterdam. From 1978 to 1981, he was First Bassoonist in the ensemble I Solisti Veneti. He has been the First Bassoonist of the Lyon National Opera Orchestra since its founding in 1983. Colombo has performed with leading European orchestras under famous conductors. He is interested in the original instruments and so has performed with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique under the direction of Sir J. E. Gardiner. Colombo is a member of the horn ensemble Maurice Bourgue and has taught since 2001 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon and since 2005 at the Lausanne Conservatory. He has taught as a Guest Professor at Indiana University and at the Oberlin Conservatory. He publishes neglected works for the bassoon with the music publishing houses Billaudot and Accolade.
